On June 9, 1967, as part of the Six-Day War, Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria. Today, while Israel controls the territory, it is still disputed between the two countries. #OTD

On June 8, 1042, Edward the Confessor became King of England, restoring the House of Wessex to the throne. He would end up being the last (undisputed) Anglo-Saxon king before the Norman Conquest in 1066. #OTD
