European Union
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
England

Once again, in 2017, I went on a trip to Europe in which London served as the jumping off point to the continent. While I only had limited time in London, I was able to see a show, walk around the city, and just enjoy London before heading to Gibraltar. Upon returning from France, I took a ferry to Dover to see the White Cliffs before spending a few hours again in London before returning to Southern California. One of the best parts about visiting London is the ability to just walk around and take in the sights. But, what was particularly interesting about this trip, when compared to a year ago, was that I was returning after the Brexit referendum in 2016. When I was in England a year ago, David Cameron was Prime Minister and the UK was firmly in the European Union. By this trip, however, Theresa May was Prime Minister and the UK had voted to leave the European Union and the clock was ticking down to the point of exit. Interestingly, the next two times I would return, the UK would still be members of the European Union, but by 2019, Boris Johnson would have become Prime Minister and the country would be just over a month away from formally leaving.
