Growing up, I would go to Santa Catalina Island with regularity—it was essentially an annual tradition. As time has gone by, however, I have not been able to go to the island as often as I once did. That said, whenever I have the opportunity, I will make my way over to the island to get away from the craziness that is Southern California. On this particular trip, we went to both Avalon and Two Harbors and beaches and snorkel spots in between. While at Long Point, we saw a turtle and while diving at Casino Point, we came across three giant sea bass. The most memorable aspect of this trip, however, would have to be the boat ride home. While I was sleeping in the main cabin of the boat, the exhaust line broke and was filling the room with carbon monoxide. The boat was trying to kill me! Luckily, I woke up before the boat could do me in and from that day forward, I will forever take the ferry service from the mainland to the island rather than by father’s boat.
